CUBASE: How do I control plug-ins in Cubase 12 with the QCon Pro X?
This article shows how to control plugins in Cubase 12 with the QCon Pro X. There is a video as well available HERE on our YouTube channel. The information in this article refers to Cubase when it is in Cubase mode, not compatibility mode, (Studio -> More Options -> Mackie Control -> Cubase/Compatibility Modes).
To use the Cubase channel strip select FX SEND. Use the 1st rotary knob to select one of the 6 strips. Use the 3rd knob to select which module you’d like. Once you’ve arrived at the module you would like to use (i.e. in compressors, the standard, tube or vintage compressor), simply wait and the module will load.
Select >| to select the parameters, use rotary controls to adjust. Continue pressing >| and |< to scroll back and forth through parameters.
To load and adjust more, simply press FX Send again and repeat the process.
You can adjust EQ within the channel strip. However, this is the exception to the rule as the user needs to press EQ and adjust parameters using the rotary controls.
For plug-in controls (inserts): press INSERTS and scroll through the available plug-ins in your inserts i.e. IFX 1, IFX2 etc., scroll to the desired plug-in. Press >|. Use rotary controls to adjust. Press |< and >| to navigate through the parameters. Some parameters may appear on the page where you select the plug in, (usually if you are using extenders). For complex plug-ins with many parameters , some may not be available to adjust using external generic controllers. Some plug-ins may not work with external controllers at all.
VST Instrument Controls: Press VST, press >| (and |< to scroll back) and select the rotary controls to adjust parameters. Again, not every instrument lends itself to being used by control surfaces such as the Pro X. Some instruments that have extensive adjustable controls, may have parameters unavailable to external generic controllers. Again, some instruments may not work (or work very well) with external generic controllers at all.
Sends: Press SENDS, press PAGE DOWN, select ‘Pre/Post’, (pre or post fader), ‘On/Off’ and ‘Level’ (of the FX send) and adjust using the rotary knobs, using >| to navigate forward (and |< to scroll back). If you have 2 x XS units, the parameters will occupy all three screens.
