Setting up your P1-M, P1-X, or P1 Nano in iMap
This guide helps you get your P-Series controller working the way you want.
With iMap you can connect the controller, choose your DAW, map the touchscreen buttons, set up an extender, and keep the firmware current.
The steps below cover the P1-M main unit, the P1-X extender, and the P1 Nano.
A good result looks like this:
- iMap sees your controller by name
- The correct DAW is selected
- The buttons and faders do what you expect in your DAW software.
Firstly, get the correct iMap for your controller model
The P-Series controllers do not all use the same iMap application:
- P1-M and P1-X share one installer, the P1-M/X iMap.
- P1 Nano has its own installer, the P1 Nano iMap.
The easiest way to get the correct iMap is with Smart Install, which detects your device and offers the correct iMap to download.

Before you start
- Download and Install the Smart Install application that is available from any of the P-series product pages of the iCON Website.
- Run the Smart Install, the correct hardware controller should be detected and the correct iMap application for your device should be made available to download. If Smart Install fails to detect your iCON device, you can add the software manually on the Smart Install user interface.
- Download and install the correct iMap,
- Connect the controller to a USB 3.0 port (the blue one) directly on your computer, not through a USB hub, this gives the steadiest connection.
- There is no separate iCON driver to install. The P-Series are class compliant devices, so this is about the connection between the hardware and iMap software, not installing drivers.
Step 1: Connect the controller in iMap
- Plug in the controller and turn it on, give it a few seconds to be recognized.
- Open the correct iMap for your controller model.
- Find your device in the device dropdown menu and select it, iMap will connect to the hardware.

Step 2: Set the position of the main unit and any extenders
If you use a P1-X extender or multiple extenders, each unit needs to know what order it is in, its physical place in the row of controllers, so your DAW will line up the channels correctly
The P1-X works with the P1-M and also with the P1 Nano, so these steps apply to either model. You set the controller’s position at the start up stage, and there is only a brief window of time to do it, you can change it anytime again though.
- Turn the unit on.
- Within one to two seconds, press the REC button that matches its position, so the REC light comes on.
- Press the 1st REC button for position 1 (X1).
- Press the 2nd REC button for position 2 (X2), and so on.
- Set each unit in the row this way, left to right.
If you have a single main unit with no extender, just make sure channel 1's REC light comes on at startup.

Step 3: Pick your DAW and map the buttons
In iMap, you choose your DAW and set what the touchscreen buttons do:
- Select your DAW in iMap so the controller loads the correct default layout for that DAW software.
- Use iMap to change what a touchscreen button does. If you want a different function on the touchscreen, you can drag and drop new functions within iMap
- Save your layout when you are happy with it. If you click Save File in the bottom right corner, it will save all three DAW file positions. If you only want to save the current DAW, right-click in the black space next to the button functions, and click Save DAW mapping.
After you update iMap: load the new default mappings
When you move to a newer iMap, the new default DAW mappings do not turn on by themselves, so your own custom mappings are safe. To use the newest defaults, right-click and choose "Reset current to factory default" for your DAW. If you want to keep your custom layout, you can skip this.
Basic settings and self-tests (only if you need them)
The P1-M, P1-X, and P1 Nano have a few built-in checks you can activate by holding an encoder while you power on the controller. Most people never need these, but they are useful if something looks wrong:
- Fader calibration: Press and hold Encoder 1 while powering on to enter fader calibration. Turn the encoder above a fader to change its fader speed, left to slow it down and right to speed it up, set the fader to the 0 position as the screen shows you, then press encoder 8 to save and exit. The P1 Nano has a single fader, so you only need to calibrate that single fader.
- LED test: Press and hold Encoder 3 while powering on. The button LEDs, meter LEDs, and displays should all light up. Power the unit off and on to leave the test.
- Factory reset: Press and hold Encoders 2 and 3 together while powering on. This returns the controller to its original settings, so any custom mappings are cleared.
- Disable the motorized fader (P1 Nano only): Press and hold encoder 7 while powering on. Turn the unit off and on again to switch the fader motor back on.
Updating firmware
Firmware updates for the P-Series devices run through iMap:
- Only update one device at a time. If you are updating a main unit P1-M, or P1-Nano, turn off and unplug any or all extenders. The P1-M and P1-X are separate devices with separate firmware.
- In iMap, check the device dropdown and confirm it names the exact device you are updating, since loading the wrong firmware onto a device can damage it.
- Start the update and keep the controller connected and powered until it finishes.

macOS tip: keep the install path simple
On a Mac, keep the iMap application in a folder whose full path has no spaces, such as your Applications folder. A firmware update can fail on macOS if the iMap file sits in a folder path that contains spaces.

- Your DAW, and DAW version
- What you were setting up when it failed.
