FAQ: How do I perform automation functions in Pro Tools from my DAW Controller?
(This article applies to the V1-M, P1-M, Qcon Pro G2, Qcon Pro X and Platform M+ and the Qcon Pro)
Pro Tools uses the HUI protocol to communicate with the controllers. Some buttons behave in a slightly different way than the more common Mackie Control Protocol (MCP) that most DAW’s use. You can select Read, Touch, Latch, or Write modes in Pro Tools, and then the channel that you wish to perform the automation on.
To perform automation functions in Pro Tools from any of the above iCON DAW Controllers, please do the following:
- Press and hold the desired automation function on your controller - Read, Write, Touch or Latch.
- While holding the desired automation function, now press the channel’s encoder (pan knob) that you wish to perform the function on.
- The controller’s channel will now be enabled for the selected automation mode.
(Due to the limitations of the HUI Protocol, this function cannot be performed on any controller extenders).
