FAQ: V1-M +V1-X’s - I have 7 expansion units – are there any restrictions on the maximum amount of extenders?
As you will know, how you add extenders is described in the article ‘FAQ: How to Allocate Extender Positions’ in the Help Center and in the V1-X extender manual, (‘Allocating Extender Positions’).
You will be similarly aware that the amount of extenders allowable is dictated by the DAW (please check your DAW literature for details).
If you are lucky enough to have seven V1-X extender units for your V1-M, amounting to a total of eight units, there is a slight anomaly that you may need to consider.
Generally, it is recommended, with 8 positions available, that the V1-M main unit occupies the last position, (position 8).
The reason for this is that the second (lower screen) of the V1-X extenders is currently unable to show the 8th position track names as it is limited to a total of 7 extender positions. If a V1-X extender occupies the 8th position, the track numbers in the lower screen of that unit will display incorrectly. If the 8th position is occupied by the master unit device, (V1-M), the second (lower) screen will be displayed correctly on all units.
It may be that the DAW you are using does not utilize the second (lower) screen anyway, so this may be a moot point.
It is hoped a future firmware update will amend this anomaly. A notice will be placed here to inform users of this eventuality.
Should you have seven V1-X extenders and wish to have an extender occupying position 8 in the interim period, here is a general guide (shown through example), on how to organize this;
V1X1--- V1X2--- V1X3--- V1M --- V1X5--- V1X6 ---V1X7--- V1X4
Here, we have the V1-M main unit occupying position 4. Therefore, because there are only seven extender positions available, the extender in the eighth position must take the ‘identity’ of the 4th position. Set up your devices as described in the ‘FAQ: How to Allocate Extender Positions’ article in the Help Center or the ‘Allocating Extender Positions’ section in the V1-X manual as normal. When it comes to the extender in the 8th position, select the 4th REC button after you turn on the device. The second (lower) screen of this unit will then display the channel names as CH25-- CH32. This will be the same as the second (lower) screen of the V1-M.
V1X1 ---V1X2 --- V1X3 --- V1X4 --- V1M --- V1X6 --- V1X7 --- V1X5
Here, we have the V1-M main unit occupying position 5. Therefore, because there are only seven extender positions available, the extender in the eighth position must take the ‘identity’ of the 5th position. Set up your devices as described in the ‘FAQ: How to Allocate Extender Positions’ article in the Help Center or the ‘Allocating Extender Positions’ section in the V1-X manual as normal. When it comes to the extender in the 8th position, select the 5th REC button after you turn on the device. The second (lower) screen of this unit will then display the channel names as CH33-- CH40. This will be the same as the second (lower) screen of the V1-M.
V1X1 --- V1M --- V1X3 --- V1X4 --- V1X5 ---V1X6 ---V1X7 ---V1X2
Here, we have the V1-M main unit occupying position 2. Therefore, because there are only seven extender positions available, the extender in the eighth position must take the ‘identity’ of the 2nd position. Set up your devices as described in the ‘FAQ: How to Allocate Extender Positions’ article in the Help Center or the ‘Allocating Extender Positions’ section in the V1-X manual as normal. When it comes to the extender in the 8th position, select the 2nd REC button after you turn on the device. The second (lower) screen of this unit will then display the channel names as CH9-- CH16. This will be the same as the second (lower) screen of the V1-M.
