Unlike most DAW programs, the QCon Pro uses HUI protocol to talk to ProTools instead of Mackie Control. Because of this, some buttons behave slightly differently than with other software options. Also, instead of a global automation record mode, ProTools selects automation per-channel, meaning for each channel you can choose between Read, Touch, Latch, or Write modes.

To enable this for each channel, simply hold down the Automation button for the mode you wish to use and push down on the encoder(pan knob) at the top of the channel you want to automate. This will enable the selected automation mode for that channel.
