iMap does not detect your controller or keyboard
iMap works with iCON control surfaces and keyboards. If iMap is not seeing your device when it is connected, this is usually quick to sort out. The cause is almost always the USB connection, or the computer holding on to a stale connection. iCON control surfaces and keyboards are class compliant, so there is no iCON driver to install. This is a connection issue, not a driver issue.
If you have an iCON audio interface, this article does not apply. Audio interfaces do not use iMap. See article: “My iCON Pro Audio audio interface is not detected” instead.
Check the connection first
- Connect the device to a USB 3.0 port. A blue USB port is 3.0; a black port is 2.0. We recommend a USB 3.0 port for iCON devices.
- Connect the device directly to the computer, not through a hub, to confirm it works.
- If it is still not detected, try a different USB port, and a different, known-good USB cable.
- If it still does not behave, use a good powered USB hub such as the iCON One Hub, which is designed to power a full bay of iCON controllers. Connect the device directly the first time to confirm it is working, then add the hub.
- Turn the device off and on, and give it a few seconds to be recognized.
Check whether the computer sees the device
Before looking at iMap, check whether the computer has picked up the device at all.
On Windows, open Device Manager. The device may appear under its own name, or as USB Audio Device or USB MIDI Device.
On macOS, open Audio MIDI Setup, or open System Information and look under USB. The device appears under its iCON model name.
If the computer does not show the device in any of these, skip to "If nothing sees the device" near the end.
Select the device in iMap
Open the iMap for your product. Your device appears in the device dropdown menu. Select it there so iMap connects to it.
Refresh the connection
If the computer sees the device but iMap will not connect to it, or the device started behaving oddly after a firmware update, refresh how the computer is holding the connection. Because the device is class compliant, this does not install a driver. It clears a stale connection so the computer detects the device fresh.
On Windows:
- Open Device Manager and find your device.
- Right-click it and choose Uninstall device.
- Unplug the USB cable and restart the computer.
- Reconnect the cable to a different USB port. The computer detects the device again.
On macOS:
- Turn the device off.
- Open Audio MIDI Setup and select your device, shown under its iCON model name.
- Click the minus button at the top to remove it.
- Turn the device back on. The computer adds it again.
Is the device stuck in firmware upgrade mode?
If the device screen is blank, or it recently had a firmware update that did not finish, it may be stuck in firmware upgrade mode rather than failing to connect. In that case, follow the recovery article for your product:
- V-Series and P-Series: Recovering a V-Series or P-Series controller from a failed firmware update.
- QCon and Platform:Recovering a QCon or Platform controller from a failed firmware update.
If nothing sees the device
If no computer detects the device at all, its USB firmware may be erased or damaged.
iCON control surfaces use two kinds of firmware. The functional firmware handles what the device does in your DAW, and you can update that yourself in iMap. The USB firmware handles the connection between the device and the computer. The USB firmware cannot be restored by users. It has to be restored with special equipment at an iCON service center.
If your device is still under warranty, your retailer or distributor may cover this. Either way, find your regional distributor on the iCON distributor map and ask about service: [INSERT distributor link].
Contact support
If you are still stuck, we are happy to help. Contact support with your product model, your operating system, whether the device is connected directly or through a hub, whether it appears in Device Manager or System Information under its model name, and what you have already tried. That detail helps us get you a useful answer on the first reply.
