My iCON Pro Audio audio interface is not detected
If your iCON Pro Audio audio interface is not showing up on your computer, in your DAW, or in its control software, start with the USB connection and then confirm that the correct software for your interface is installed.
For supported iCON products, Smart Install is the recommended way to identify and install the correct drivers and companion software for your device. This is available on your product page at www.iconproaudio.com.
A successful connection means your computer recognizes the interface and you can select it as an audio device in compatible software.
Important: iCON has produced multiple generations of audio interfaces. Driver, software, and operating-system compatibility can vary by model. Always use the software provided for your exact iCON device rather than installing a driver intended for another model.
1. Start with the USB connection
Before reinstalling software, make sure the computer has a stable connection to the interface.
- Connect the interface directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer.
iCON engineers recommend using a USB 3.0 connection for iCON audio devices. While troubleshooting, connect directly to the computer rather than through a USB hub, dock, or extension cable. - Reconnect the USB cable at both ends.
Make sure each connector is fully inserted. - Try another USB 3.0 port.
If the interface is not detected, move it to another USB 3.0 connection and give the operating system a few seconds to recognize it. - Try another known-good USB data cable.
A USB cable can provide power while still failing to carry data reliably. Use a known-good cable that supports data transfer and the connection required by your interface. - Check the interface's power.
Make sure the interface powers on normally and remains powered. If your model supports or requires an external power supply for your setup, follow the power requirements in its manual.
Note: A USB port does not always have to be blue to support USB 3.0. If you are unsure which ports on your computer are USB 3.0 or later, check the computer manufacturer's specifications.
If the interface is still not detected, continue below.
2. Use iCON Smart Install
For supported iCON devices, Smart Install is the recommended starting point for installing iCON drivers and companion software.
Smart Install detects the connected iCON device and identifies the appropriate available software for that device and operating system. This reduces the risk of installing a package intended for a different product.
- Connect your iCON interface directly to a USB 3.0 port.
- Go to the Downloads section of your interface's product page on the iCON Pro Audio website.
- Download Smart Install for your operating system.
- Open Smart Install.
- Allow Smart Install to identify the connected iCON device.
- Install the driver and/or companion applications Smart Install provides for your device.
- Follow any installation prompts.
- Restart the computer if requested.
Windows: If Windows prevents Smart Install from making the required changes, close it, right-click the application, and select Run as administrator, then try again.
macOS: Do not install a Windows driver or a driver package intended for a different iCON product. Use Smart Install and the software provided for your specific device and macOS version.
See [LINK: Getting the right software for your iCON device with Smart Install] for complete Smart Install instructions.
3. Windows: check Device Manager
If your interface or iCON control software still reports that no device is connected, check whether Windows can see the hardware.
- Right-click the Start button and open Device Manager.
- Leave Device Manager open.
- Disconnect the interface.
- Reconnect it directly to a USB 3.0 port.
- Watch Device Manager for a device to disappear and reappear.
Depending on the interface and its current driver state, it may appear under categories such as:
- Sound, video and game controllers
- Audio inputs and outputs
- Universal Serial Bus controllers
- Other devices
The exact device name and location can vary.
If the interface appears normally
Windows is detecting the hardware.
If the interface is still unavailable in your DAW or iCON control software, run Smart Install and confirm that the correct software for your exact interface has been installed.
After installation, restart Windows if requested and check again.
If the interface appears with a warning symbol
A warning symbol in Device Manager means Windows has detected the hardware but has identified a problem with the device or its driver.
Run Smart Install and install or repair the software provided for your interface. Restart Windows if requested.
Do not assume that every Device Manager warning means the driver is simply missing. The device's Properties page can provide additional information or an error code that may be useful to iCON Support.
If the interface does not appear at all
If nothing changes in Device Manager when you connect and disconnect the interface, focus on the USB connection before repeatedly reinstalling drivers.
Try:
- Another USB 3.0 port
- Another known-good USB data cable
- A direct connection instead of a hub or dock
- Confirming that the interface remains properly powered
- Restarting the computer with the interface disconnected, then reconnecting it after Windows has started
- Testing the interface with another compatible computer, if available
If the device is not detected on more than one compatible computer using known-good USB connections, contact iCON Support.
4. macOS: check Audio MIDI Setup
If your Mac does not recognize the interface, first determine whether macOS can see the audio device.
- Connect the interface directly to a USB 3.0 connection.
- Open Audio MIDI Setup.
- Choose Window > Show Audio Devices if the Audio Devices window is not already displayed.
- Look for your iCON interface in the device list.
If the interface appears in Audio MIDI Setup
macOS is communicating with the audio device.
If your DAW does not see it:
- Close and reopen the DAW.
- Open the DAW's audio or device settings.
- Select the iCON interface as the input and/or output device.
If your interface uses an iCON companion application, use Smart Install to confirm that the appropriate application for your model is installed.
If the interface does not appear in Audio MIDI Setup
Return to the connection before troubleshooting your DAW.
Try:
- Disconnecting and reconnecting the interface
- Another USB 3.0 connection
- Another known-good USB data cable
- Removing a hub or dock from the connection while troubleshooting
- Power-cycling the interface if your model has a power switch
- Restarting the Mac
The interface should appear in Audio MIDI Setup when macOS successfully detects it. Removing the physical interface from Audio MIDI Setup is not required as a standard device-reset procedure.
5. The iCON control software says no device is connected
If an iCON application displays a message such as "No Device Detected" or "There is no iCON device connected," the application is not currently communicating with the hardware.
That message does not necessarily mean the interface itself has failed. The USB connection, software installation, operating-system compatibility, or device configuration may be preventing communication.
Check these in order:
- Confirm that the interface is connected directly to a USB 3.0 port.
- Try another known-good USB data cable if available.
- Confirm that the operating system detects the interface:
- Windows: Check Device Manager.
- macOS: Check Audio MIDI Setup.
- Run Smart Install and install the software provided for your exact device.
- Restart the computer if requested.
- Disconnect and reconnect the interface.
- Open the iCON application again.
If the operating system itself cannot see the interface, troubleshoot the USB connection first. Reinstalling your DAW or repeatedly changing its audio settings will not correct a connection that the operating system cannot detect.
6. Check operating-system compatibility
Before spending time reinstalling software, make sure your exact iCON interface supports the operating system you are using.
This is especially important with legacy interfaces.
iCON has produced audio interfaces across several hardware and software generations, and an older interface may have different operating-system or driver requirements from a current model.
Check the Compatibility and Downloads information for your exact product on the iCON Pro Audio website.
Do not install a driver simply because it is for another iCON audio interface. Use the driver or software identified for your specific model.
7. Should I disable Secure Boot?
Do not disable Secure Boot as a standard troubleshooting step.
Secure Boot is a computer security feature, and changing it should not be part of the normal process for resolving an undetected iCON audio interface.
If Windows reports a specific driver-loading, signature, or security error after you have installed the correct software through Smart Install, record the exact error message or code and contact iCON Support.
If a system-level security setting needs to be changed for a particular computer, operating system, or legacy product, iCON Support can help determine the appropriate next step.
8. Still not detected?
If your interface is still not detected after checking the USB connection, Smart Install, and operating-system compatibility, contact iCON Pro Audio Support.
Include as much of the following information as possible:
- Exact iCON interface model
- Windows or macOS version
- Computer model
- Processor type, if known
- How the interface is connected
- Whether a hub, dock, or adapter is being used
- Whether the interface powers on and remains powered
- Whether it appears in Device Manager on Windows or Audio MIDI Setup on macOS
- Any warning symbol or error code shown in Device Manager
- The exact message shown by the iCON control software
- Whether Smart Install detects the device
- The USB ports and cables you have already tested
- Whether the interface has been tested with another compatible computer
If Smart Install generated a log file during an unsuccessful installation, include that file with your support request when available.
These details help iCON Support determine whether the issue is related to the USB connection, software installation, operating-system compatibility, or hardware—and get you back to your session with fewer unnecessary troubleshooting steps.

My ICON QCon Pro G2 can't be used by Windows 10. I've tried all updates, driver installments etc within the Windows system, but the computer fails to communicate to my controller. The system does recognize it in the USB port but it keeps saying I need to install the right drivers, which I can only hope to get from ICON. The ICON iMap software also doesn't recognize it. When is a driver download expected? Thank you in advance and kind regards.
And what about the very same problem on Mac OSX Mojave 10.14.6?
My Econ Pro X is suddenly not recognized AT ALL.
Hello Wesley, and Thierry, Thank you for reaching out.
This is likely a very different issue, as the QCon control surfaces do not use custom drivers like the audio interfaces do.
It sounds like your units may have issues with the firmware, here's a link to an article about this.

Hello there,
I've been having trouble with my Icon Cube. It works perfectly on my laptop (4 year old HP) but I can't get it to work on my new PC which came in today. I've tried every driver there is, even turned off the Windows UEFI mode, absolutely nothing is working. It is recognised by the PC, as it shows up in the 'devices' tab, but your software is not able to recognise it.
Any thoughts?
Hello,
I own platform X and platform M. My new computer is not recognizing the units but the old one is recognizing and works fine. What seems to be the problem. I can see that other people have the same issue. How to fix it?
Last week I got a Icon Qcon Pro X from the gear4music.
i have windows 10 and cubase 8.5.
I've done everything you can, but Windows does not recognize USB.
Every step, uninstall driver, change usb-port, change usb-wire, change my brains. Latest win10 updates installed and eeeeverything.
I ask you if there is anything else you can do, other than send the Qcon Pro back to store?
Same trouble over here... Platform M+ works fine on my old Win7 system, but not corretly recognised (error CODE 10) on my new AM4 system, Asus Pro WS x570 ACE and WIn 10 - 1909 (Build18363-476).
That is a sad story iCON!
I found out the cause is on the motherboard. x570 usb ports do not work with icon.
we need pci usb ports
@ Jussi Huhtala.. Thanks man! I thought about that as well. After your comment I will give it a try and give some feedback.
Hey Guys, Just wondering if you ever got anything working with an x570 motherboard?
With this everything Works like a charm https://www.ebay.com/c/8008929075?iid=254244841176
Appreciate it! Weird problem but at least theres a solution
Takes the piss that it doesnt work with x570 chip! No mention of that before i bought it!! Why not create a patch that fixes it? Also - the imap software doesnt even boot up... seems like just an expensive paper weight! Going to see about returning it, had it all of about 5 hours - all of which was spent trying to get it to work :@
This is so lame! So what you're saying is that I need to either get a PCI expansion card or sell my Icon M+ because I have an X570 motherboard?!?
Why can't there be drivers to fix this? All my older USB 2.0 devices work fine on my motherboard except the Platform. Just bad drivers and bad software.
Will probably look to sell this thing.
Thanx to everybody with X570, otherwise I would spent a night trying to get it working. No chance will try on the other machine. Good product.
I had a problem on PC with X570 motherboard. So I connected X+ to Macbook, I've upgraded the firmware to 2.06 (Beta), now I got it working on my PC.
This have become unbearable...
I have 1 Pro X and 3 Pro XS... Since I got them I always had problems.
It's been two years trying to fix the units / drivers... getting powered USB hubs, getting PCI USB card, sending the device to factory and it always ends on the same thing: The devices are not detected.
I have invested a good amount of money on 4 products that I almost never used because of all the issues.
I'd like to know if I can return the units and ask for a refund (I have proof of historical issues).
It's really a pity that Icon hasn't been able to fix my problems for 2 years.
(The support on facebook by a guy named Brian was always very helpful but the problems were never solved)
also having the same issue. i bought a platform b+ unit to work it with my laptop. by no means i'm buying a usb card or anything. what's wrong! please let us know!
for those using platform b+ as a standalone: Error 10 insufficient risorse for complete API.
I have the same situation using a platform b+ as a standalone. I tried everything. except for the pci replacement, since i wanted to used on a notebook. my usb kept not recognizing it. so i bought the plarform m+ to see if it would work by the midi connection provided, and it did. never had to connect it to usb. please, inform about this to those who are using platform b+ as a standalone before buying. and please provide a better service in this q&a. i loved the products but if you don't do better in service it all goes to waste. kind regards.
